Fall is a wonderful time of the year. Lower temperatures bring milder weather after the heat of summer, along with falling leaves, crisp winds, and other fantastic experiences. Fall is unsurprisingly much loved, being many people's favorite season. However, it can also be difficult to stay fit during fall. Shorter days, for example, can make it harder to find the time for a workout. With that in mind, here are four of the best tips for keeping in shape during fall.
1. Take advantage of outdoor activities. Summer can be too hot for outdoor exercise, while winter is often too cold. Fall offers a happy medium between these two extremes. Activities such as running and bicycling are most enjoyable during this relatively mild season. It can also be much easier to summon motivation when the weather is pleasant, rather than frigid or sweltering.
2. Exercise earlier. With fall, comes shorter days. Working out when it's dark or getting dark can be difficult. Visibility may be low, fatigue is more likely, and motivation can be harder to come by. That's why it's a better idea to schedule exercise in either the morning or early afternoon. Otherwise, a workout may never get done at all.
3. Dress properly. Being cold during a workout is miserable, and will likely completely sap motivation. That's why it's important to dress warmly whenever it gets especially chilly. Wearing multiple layers is wise. This allows outer layers to be shed as exertion warms the body up. Hats and gloves are also smart. Ideally, fall exercise clothing should be made of lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking material.
4. Stay indoors if necessary. There will be days during fall when it becomes too chilly to head outside. Then, it's time for some indoor exercise. Going to gym is one good option, especially since it allows the use of weight machines and other equipment. Otherwise, a simple home workout of body weight exercises and stretches is the best option. Exercising inside is also valuable because it serves as great practice for winter, during which indoor workouts are generally a necessity.
Fall, like every season, presents its share of challenges to those who care about fitness. Fortunately, these challenges can be overcome by anyone willing to put forth the necessary effort. The four tips seen above should all help.
